Now that the 2011 All-Star game has come to an end i wanted to give my reactions and thoughts about the game.
The Braves seen all four of their players play in this years mid summer classic. Starting catcher Brian McCann went 0 for 2 and did not have the kind of impact he had last year when he took the MVP honors.
Jair Jurrjens was next up and entered the game in the 6th inning. He lasted 1.2 innings giving up one hit and striking out one. NL manager Bruce Bochy then went with another Atlanta Brave in Craig Kimbrel he came in gave up a walk and got one out to end the 7th.
The final Atlanta Brave came into the next inning as Bochy decided to go with back to back to back Braves. Jonny Venters quickly got two outs in 4 pitches, one of them was a strike out before being taken out by Heath Bell.
First baseman and NL HR Derby captain Prince Fielder walked away with the MVP honors this time around. He finished the game 1 for 2 with a huge three run shot in the 4th to give the National League a lead they never relinquished. I wasn’t surprised he won MVP honors he was clutch when needed and i have to admit i must have voted for him 20 times when the All-Star MVP voting was up.
Pirates Joel Hanrahan and Giants Brian “the beard” Wilson combined to get the final three outs of the game. It all started to unravel for the NL when shortstop Starlin Castro made a throwing error. Shortly after Jay Bruce made a throwing error and just like that two runners on.
Brian Wilson quickly came in to relieve Hanrahan and he got Michael Cuddyer to fly out to right. With the strength of Jay Bruce’s arm he was able to keep Carlos Quentin from scoring. The last at bat was Paul Konerko who grounded out to short this time Castro did not error it and the NL took the game for the second year in a row.
The 82nd All-Star game wasn’t quite as entertaining as past games (including last year) however as a true fan of baseball i still enjoyed it. I hope now that the NL has wrapped up home field advantage in the World Series, that maybe JUST MAYBE the Braves can pull it off and make it to the World Series.
