I have finally purchased Major League Baseball 2K11 this past Friday. I have always been a huge baseball fan and i enjoy the simulations for the most part. I’ve always picked up the latest 2K Sports baseball iterations on the day of release since MLB 2K6. However this year it was a different story and I’ll explain why.
The last couple years especially MLB 2K9 they were full of bugs/glitches that left the game almost unplayable. If you’re a true baseball fan and enjoy playing the franchise mode you start to wonder when we will get a good offering of baseball from 2K Sports.
This year i decided to hold out and wait for some feedback from forums, reviews, friends etc. I read that there were many glitches yet again in this years version but overall seemed to be a slight upgrade from last years.
I waited patiently and ten weeks from release i decided to get my hands on it. A patch is due out this coming week, perhaps as early as Tuesday. I’ve only played a handful of games but here are some of my initial thoughts so far.
|• Solid hit variety (infield flies, pop outs in foul territory, gappers)||• AI managing (keeping a pitcher in to bat in crucial situations)|
|• The addition of the “pitch count” rather than just based on energy alone||• Outfield arm strength|
|• The home broadcast perspective||• Injury frequency|
|• Variable strike zone||• Energy bug in franchise (players regain full energy after each game)|
|• Pitching difficulty||–|
Those are my early impressions on the game. This list could change post patch. You also have to keep in mind that I’ve only played with a small sample size. I may uncover more Pros and Cons throughout the game.
As of right now i am quite happy to get my hands on another baseball simulation. It was tough to wait out ten weeks for a game i usually purchase day one. It just goes to show, you CAN alienate your loyal fans. I find the game pleasant and almost playable. The energy needs to be fixed for franchise and the injury frequency. Once that is fixed i will be happy to start a real franchise.
It certainly isn’t much different from 2K10, however if we get that patch i could see it getting better.
